Mgr Olden delivering his lecture |
Far from being a limited account, it painted a composite picture of those who worked through the 19th century, whether they stayed at home or were abroad, many of them Gaelic scholars. From Dean Thomas Hearn (1734-1810) and his brother Francis Hearn (1747-1801) to Cardinal Michael Browne, OP (1887-1971), Master General of the Dominicans and Cardinal Theologian to the Pope, Mgr Olden regaled us with anecdotes attached to the lives of those great men, some shy and retiring, some intrepid and adventurous.
