Topic: John Kennedy's Irish Legacy - how JFK's visit and his presidency helped change Ireland.
Speaker: Mr Noel Whelan
Venue: The Emigrant Centre, New Ross (note change of venue for this lecture)

There will also be a presentation, by Mr Patrick Grennan of the Kennedy Homestead, Dunganstown, on the Kennedys' of Dunganstown and America.

In times of crisis the eyes of the world are fixed upon 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. This is the White House the seat of important councils and the place where one man must make momentous decisions that can affect the lives of people everywhere (The White House - An Historic Guide). For four days in 1963, from June 26th to 29th, the eyes of the world moved from the White House to Ireland and in particular to New Ross, the ancestral home of that man - The President of the United States of America.

AIDAN O'HARA
Donegal-born broadcaster and writer, Aidan O'Hara, has worked as a presenter and producer with RTÉ and CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), and now lives in County Longford.  He has taught Media Studies and Communications at the Communications Centre, Booterstown, Dublin City University, and the Tallaght Institute of Technology. Through his company, Ashton Media Services, he has taught Communication skills to school leavers, business executives, politicians and church leaders. Today, Aidan is engaged in writing full-time, but stays in touch with broadcasting through occasional contributions to Radio Telefís Éireann and Raidió na Gaeltachta.

The GAA History Project is a record of interviews with hundreds of people, including GAA members and supporters, current and former players, managers, officials and administrators. The interviews, which formed part of the GAA's 125th anniversary celebrations, record personal experiences of the GAA, e.g. earliest memories, playing matches, travelling to matches, watching matches, supporting teams (club and county), club life, changes in the game, involvement at club and county level, the GAA abroad, Scór, the Irish language, politics, religion etc.

Regina Fitzpatrick is a native of Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny and a consultant oral historian. She worked as a full-time oral historian on the GAA Oral History Project (2008-2012) and has carried out oral history interviewing, consultancy and training for both local authorities and heritage organisations including the Maze Long Kesh ‘Unlocking Heritage’ Project and St Michael’s Regeneration Board, Dublin.
Regina holds a BA in History and Irish from UCD and an MA in Cultural Policy and Arts Management, also from UCD and is currently undertaking doctoral studies at De Montfort University, Leicester.
With Dónal McAnallan and Paul Rouse, Regina co-edited 'The first fifty years of camogie', which was published in 2009 and is currently a director and chairperson of The Oral History Network of Ireland

Knockroe passage tomb, known locally as “The Caiseal”, is situated beside the Lingaun river at the south-western edge of County Kilkenny and is considered an archaeological site of national importance. Prior to the 1980s little was known about the site but in recent years it has come further into the limelight with a programme of excavation between 1990-1995, by the speaker (Dr O Suilleabhan).
